The European Gem: Budapest

I have not yet found the perfect words to convey my time in Budapest, but ‘waking up to a beautiful and lingering dream’ would come close.

Travelling, to me, is not a stamped passport and a bar stool conversation later. It is a never ending journey of self discovery. My memoirs of Budapest are like the chronicles of following my dreams. I have always wanted to visit the Hungarian Empire, and this spring saw that dream turn to reality. I didn’t spend much time sleeping, because of the pull to learn as much as I could about the history of this mystical city. To me, the real magic of this city lies in waking early to the crisp morning air, grabbing a coffee, and exploring the snow capped monuments.  You may choose to travel in the summer time, but there will always be something about the winter that creates mystique for me.

A stroll along the Danube, marvelling at ‘the shoes on the Danube Bank monument’ built in yesteryear. Indulging ourselves in the traditional cuisine of Goulash at the local restaurants. All in a days’ flutter in Budapest’.

The beautiful division of two cities, Buda & Pest, which when combined with a third in 1873, created one of the most interesting cities I’ve seen in Europe. The always smiling and warm Hungarians, filled with pride for themselves and their capital. The ‘not to be missed’ thermal baths, make the visit even more vibrant.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to visit this country, and for the Hungarian people who have created a masterpiece for us to experience and enjoy – Buda-Pest !!
